Atlanta Harpist Brenda Street:  Her Musical Style, Experience, Training, and Her Harp

Brenda's harp music enhances a wide range of special events such as weddings, cocktail receptions, rehearsal dinners, engagement parties, Christmas open houses, Mothers Day teas, and Easter Sunday brunches.  Her broad repertoire encompasses all categories:  classical, popular, jazz, religious, meditative, and traditional.  (Please visit the Testimonials page for recent client comments.)

In addition to having played for countless private functions, she has fulfilled longterm engagements in leading hotels and restaurants in both the United States and Switzerland, most notably "The Abbey Restaurant" in Atlanta, GA;  "The Tobacco Company Restaurant" in Richmond, VA;  "The Hotel Métropole" in Geneva, Switzerland;  "The Mirador Hotel" in Mont-Pèlerin;  "The Hotel Trois Couronnes" in Vevey;  and "The Palace Hotel" in Gstaad, Switzerland.

Training:  Beginning at age 11 in her native Mississippi, Brenda studied classical piano seven years with Curtis Institute graduate Sara E. McAllister.  She later studied harp six years with Judith Beattie of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, followed by one year of jazz theory with Atlanta musician Ted Howe, former instructor at The Berklee School of Music.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Millsaps College and a Master's Degree from Vanderbilt University's Peabody College of Education.

Professional Affiliations:  The American Harp Society, The Georgia Chapter of the American Harp Society, and Chamber Music America.

Instrument:  Brenda performs on a Lyon-Healy Style 23 concert grand harp.  Six feet tall, with 47 strings and a hand-carved column, this harp provides the maximum in richness and resonance.  For events that require extra volume, a small amplifier is used.
